So....who
am I?
My name is
Ian G Chivers, I'm in my fifties, and have
worked with wood for most of my
life. In the early seventies I became very frustrated with
the available finishes that I could buy.
I've tried, oils, shellac, varnishes, French polish, I have even
experimented with paints.
All were either too complicated, too fragile, too laborious, or needed
an expertise that I did not possess. So what did I do? I went to
school again for three years! I was lucky enough to be taught by
an expert in his field (Passed away now I'm afraid), who taught me his
secrets, tips and
tricks. (He was 93years old then!!!),
Over the intervening years, this knowledge has stood me in good stead
and I have benefited from using this knowledge to my advantage in
getting some of the best results
I have ever seen, in
wood finishing
and
refinishing
both for myself as well as jobs I have undertaken for other people.
These were new pieces, old pieces, guitars and a few other
musical instruments.
It does not matter if the piece of furniture is new, old, has a bad
